APHRODITE RULES the SPRING and LOVE is in the AIR!

Aphrodite-SeaAphrodite, Goddess of Love, had many lovers Gods and mortals. Yet her true love was Ares, the God of War (of all things).

And here we are as the New Moon enters Aries the youth of the zodiac, the child, the Warrior, the I AM.  This New Moon is our Spring-Board into the get up and go of the year of the Horse.  This is the time of Wood – the Green Horse’s ability to flourish.  It is the time of bursting seedlings taking root and sprouting through the soil now thawed and rich with waters deep.  It is the time when Mother Nature takes hold and everything grows without having to ‘make it so’.

Aphrodite’s energy ignites the passion of Spring, sings sweetly to us upon the breeze, seduces us to taking off the layers of cozy clothing we have adorned ourselves in for winter’s toil.  She urges us towards showing our skin to feel the first warm rays of sun… and soon attract a lover to the bed to delight in the new life, bird song and scent of flowers.

The element of Wood in the Chinese system is complimented by the element of Air in Ayurveda.  Both elements are connected to the Springtime blossoming and greening of trees, there is relationship with the productive elements of Mind and Thoughts and thus to the Creative task of Writing.  Now is the time to sit beneath a tree on a warm spring day with poetry or journal in hand… now is the time feel the spirit of the Dancing Wind spin and cajole you in the Maiden’s gift of giving joy, of giddy laughter, of innocence and flirtation as we move towards a night of Beltane fires with our Beloved.

Aphrodite was born of the ocean.  She rose from the waves into the foam on half shell out of Uranus’ sex when he was slain by his son.  She comes to us, Maiden blossoming from Imbolc’s hearth sweeping, dancing to the depths of the sea and rising as she evokes winds of change.  She is joyfully fertile, delighting in new hope and new life, in the sweet waters of our sensuality… strong like the ocean, gentle like rain, river wash my tears away… Aphrodite… Aphrodite… Aphrodite…
